Senior Accountant
About the Opportunity
A well-established infrastructure services and manufacturing organization is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join its finance team. This position plays a key role in financial reporting, compliance, accounting operations, and team leadership while supporting multiple manufacturing locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and assist with consolidated financial statements, ensuring complete, accurate, and timely reporting across multiple business entities.
- Manage the company’s fixed asset accounting, including asset additions, retirements, depreciation, capital projects, and capitalization policies. Identify opportunities to improve related procedures and internal controls.
- Support the annual financial statement audit by preparing schedules, reconciliations, and supporting documentation while serving as a resource for external auditors.
- Generate and process customer invoices for manufacturing operations located in Ohio and Connecticut, ensuring accurate and timely billing.
- Prepare state tax filings, including Ohio Commercial Activity Tax (CAT) reporting and the annual Connecticut personal property tax filing, while maintaining compliance with applicable regulations.
- Reconcile general ledger and subsidiary accounts, verify account activity, and resolve discrepancies.
- Complete monthly balance sheet reconciliations, research variances, and recommend corrective actions when necessary.
- Participate in month-end and year-end closing activities, financial analysis, process improvement initiatives, and other accounting projects as assigned.
Leadership Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day guidance and oversight for two members of the Accounting team, including workload coordination, training, and quality review.
- Assist with employee development by providing coaching, constructive feedback, and performance support.
- Promote a positive, collaborative work environment focused on accountability, teamwork, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field is required.
- Four to six years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
- Manufacturing industry experience is highly desirable.
Required Knowledge & Skills
- Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial statement preparation.
- Experience with month-end close, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and multi-entity consolidations.
- Working knowledge of fixed asset accounting, depreciation, capital expenditures, and state tax reporting requirements.
- Experience assisting with external audits and preparing audit support documentation.
- Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, formulas, and financial data analysis.
- Experience using Sage 100 is considered an advantage.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities with experience mentoring staff and coordinating departmental workflow.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while consistently meeting deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate financial information effectively across all levels of the organization.
- Self-motivated professional who works well independently and collaboratively while maintaining discretion with confidential information.
Work Environment
- Primarily office-based with extended periods of computer work.
- Occasional lifting or moving of office materials weighing up to 20 pounds.
- Position requires frequent use of hands and fingers for keyboarding and other office equipment.
- Requires close visual focus and the ability to distinguish colors when reviewing financial documents and electronic records.
