Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Cost Accountant to join our manufacturing organization. This role will be responsible for analyzing and maintaining accurate product and manufacturing costs, supporting month-end close, preparing financial analysis, and providing management with insights into cost performance and profitability.
The ideal candidate has strong experience in a manufacturing environment, a solid understanding of cost accounting principles, and hands-on experience working with ERP systems. Experience with any major ERP platform is valuable; specific software experience is not required.
Key Responsibilities

Perform cost accounting activities related to manufacturing operations, including material, labor, overhead, and production costs.

Maintain and analyze standard costs, actual costs, and product costing information.

Prepare and analyze manufacturing cost variances, including material usage, labor, overhead, purchase price, and production variances.

Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.

Reconcile inventory, work-in-process (WIP), finished goods, and related general ledger accounts.

Analyze inventory valuation and identify potential costing or inventory discrepancies.

Assist with the development and maintenance of standard costs and annual cost roll-ups.

Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, Purchasing, and Finance to understand cost drivers and improve cost accuracy.

Prepare financial and operational reports related to manufacturing costs, inventory, margins, and profitability.

Investigate significant variances and provide explanations and recommendations to management.

Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities related to manufacturing costs.

Assist with physical inventory counts and inventory control processes.

Identify opportunities to improve cost accounting processes, reporting, and internal controls.

Utilize the company’s ERP system to research transactions, maintain costing data, generate reports, and support financial analysis.

Perform other accounting and analytical duties as needed.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

3+ years of accounting experience, preferably within a manufacturing environment.

Strong understanding of cost accounting, inventory accounting, and manufacturing accounting principles.

Hands-on experience working with ERP systems in an accounting, costing, inventory, or manufacturing capacity.

Strong Excel skills and ability to analyze large amounts of financial and operational data.

Experience with standard costing, variance analysis, inventory valuation, and general ledger reconciliations.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

Ability to work cross-functionally with Finance, Operations, Supply Chain, Purchasing, and other departments.

Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications

Experience with standard cost development and annual cost roll-ups.

Experience with inventory reserves, cycle counts, and physical inventory processes.

Experience supporting budgeting and forecasting in a manufacturing environment.
-
CPA, CMA, or progress toward a professional accounting certification is a plus.

Experience with manufacturing KPIs and operational performance metrics is a plus.

The successful candidate will be a hands-on accounting professional who is comfortable working with both financial data and manufacturing operations. Strong ERP experience and the ability to learn and navigate complex systems are more important than experience with any particular ERP platform.
