Our client is a premier Boston-based property management and development company with a diverse portfolio of more than 1 million square feet across Boston’s SoWa, South End, and St. Botolph neighborhoods. The portfolio includes residential apartments, art studios, offices, restaurants, a gym, and large multi-purpose event spaces.
Position Summary
The Accounting Operations Manager will be a hands-on leader with overall responsibility for accounting operations and the integrity, accuracy, and timeliness of financial information. This individual will both perform key accounting functions and supervise, while ensuring that appropriate controls and review procedures are followed.
The successful candidate must be detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable taking ownership of work across multiple properties and entities. The individual will also evaluate existing processes, identify areas for improvement and implement solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and perform all accounting functions, including receipts, disbursements, payables, tenant invoicing, general ledger activity and financial close
- Ensure complete, accurate, and timely cash-basis financial reporting for management
- Supervise and support full-time accounting employee and ensure quality and timeliness of functions
- Review bank reconciliations, tenant ledgers, cash activity, account coding, and resolve discrepancies
- Evaluate accounting workflows and systems to identify opportunities for improvement and implement solutions
- Standardize and document accounting processes to improve efficiency
- Coordinate with management, vendors and tenants to ensure accounting matters are handled accurately
- Provide necessary records and information to outside tax preparers and respond to tax-related requests
- Support budgeting, cash-flow planning, tax filings, financing requirements, and other management reporting needs
- Serve as the primary point of contact for accounting responsibilities
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- Hands-on accounting experience, including financial close, bank reconciliations, cash activity, account review, and internal controls
- Ability to manage an accounting function, supervise employees, and improve processes from evaluation through implementation
- Exceptional attention to detail, judgment, organization, follow-through, and commitment to accuracy
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify the underlying cause of discrepancies
- Proficiency in Excel and accounting or property-management systems; Yardi and real estate experience preferred
- Clear, professional communication skills and the ability to work effectively with employees at all levels of the organization
