Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Accountant – Financial Reporting to join our accounting and finance team at a leading energy/utilities company. This role will play a key part in the preparation and analysis of financial statements, SEC reporting, and other external financial reporting requirements.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical accounting and financial reporting experience, with a background in public accounting preferred. Candidates coming directly from industry with relevant financial reporting experience are also encouraged to apply. An active CPA license is strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and related disclosures.
  • Support the preparation and filing of SEC reports, including Forms 10-K and 10-Q, as applicable.
  • Assist with external financial reporting, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with U.S. GAAP and applicable SEC requirements.
  • Prepare supporting schedules, account reconciliations, and financial statement analyses.
  • Research and evaluate accounting issues and assist with the implementation of new accounting standards.
  • Support the preparation of footnotes and other disclosures included in external financial statements.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, external auditors, and other stakeholders during quarterly and annual reporting cycles.
  • Analyze financial results and investigate significant variances and unusual transactions.
  • Assist with internal controls and documentation related to the financial reporting process.
  • Identify opportunities to improve reporting processes, controls, and accounting procedures.
  • Support special projects and other accounting initiatives as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA license required or strongly preferred.
  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a strong focus on financial reporting and financial statement preparation.
  • Experience with SEC reporting is highly desirable.
  • Public accounting experience is ideal, particularly experience with audit or SEC reporting; candidates with strong industry experience will also be considered.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing financial statements and related disclosures.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet tight reporting deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Experience

  • Big Four or large public accounting firm experience.
  • Experience supporting SEC registrants or publicly traded companies.
  • Experience in the energy, utilities, infrastructure, or related regulated industries.
  • Familiarity with complex accounting transactions and technical accounting research.
  • Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools.
