Job Title: Senior Staff Accountant

The Senior Staff Accountant owns significant areas of the accounting close and financial reporting across the company’s entities and brings a strong analytical lens to the numbers. The role handles more complex accounting, accruals, reconciliations, and consolidations, prepares and analyzes financial statements, supports audit and quality-of-earnings work, and partners with finance leadership on reporting and analysis. The Senior Staff Accountant also helps build and improve processes and systems as the company modernizes its finance function.

Duties and Responsibilities Include:
 

  • Own key areas of the month-end and year-end close
  • Prepare and analyze consolidated monthly and annual financial statements across the company’s entities.
  • Prepare and review journal entries and maintain the integrity of the general ledger.
  • Lead account reconciliations and resolve complex accounting matters.
  • Provide in-depth variance analysis and financial insight to support decision-making.
  • Support internal and external audit and quality-of-earnings processes.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and management reporting.
  • Contribute to reporting build-outs in Business Central and Power BI as those tools come online.
  • Identify and implement process improvements and automation across the accounting function.
  • Provide review and guidance to other accounting staff.
  • Stay current on accounting best practices, technical standards, and regulatory requirements.

Skills and Qualifications:
 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Deep understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and technical accounting.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to turn data into insight.
  • Experience with accounting and reporting systems, and a track record of improving processes.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities.

Education & Experience:
 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field required.
  • 5-8 years of progressive professional accounting experience.
  • CMA (Certified Management Accountant) certification is strongly preferred.
  • CMA or CPA candidates, or a willingness to enroll in the CMA program, are also a plus.

Supervisory Responsibility: The Senior Staff Accountant may review the work of and provide guidance to other accounting staff but has no formal direct reports.

Work Environment: This is a full-time, in-office position in Exeter, NH, five days per week, in a traditional office setting, working alongside the Accounting Team. This is not a hybrid role. Occasional work from home is available for personal reasons, but the position does not include regularly scheduled remote days. Use of technology is required.

Physical Demands: Prolonged periods sitting at a desk working with a computer and may need to lift (15) pounds at a time as needed.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: Salary Exempt: normal workday/week is Monday through Friday available hours of 8:00AM-5PM. Flexibility can be required based on the hiring needs and accessibility to the candidate’s availability.

Travel: This position will require travel on an occasional basis. Travel expenses will be reimbursed by the company.
