Senior Accounting Manager
Nonprofit Human Services Organization
An established Massachusetts-based nonprofit human services organization is seeking an experienced Senior Accounting Manager to lead day-to-day accounting operations, strengthen financial processes, and support continued organizational growth.
This is a hands-on leadership role for someone with a strong nonprofit accounting background who can oversee the close, reporting, budgeting, compliance, and accounting team while partnering with senior leadership on broader financial initiatives.
Nonprofit accounting experience is required for this position.
Responsibilities

Lead the organization’s accounting and financial operations, including general ledger, month-end close, financial reporting, budgeting, cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and purchasing

Manage contract, grant, and funding-related accounting activities

Partner with executive leadership on annual budgets, forecasts, financial analysis, and operational decision-making

Maintain accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards

Support annual audits and ensure appropriate documentation, reconciliations, and controls are maintained

Strengthen internal controls and identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, systems, and reporting

Oversee funding, billing, and compliance requirements associated with nonprofit programs and contracts

Manage, mentor, and develop the accounting team while ensuring deadlines and monthly close schedules are consistently met

Provide financial analysis and reporting to help leadership understand organizational performance and make informed decisions
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required

CPA, master’s degree, or other advanced credential preferred

Progressive accounting leadership experience within a nonprofit organization required

Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting, GAAP, financial reporting, budgeting, audits, and internal controls

Experience with contract, grant, or government-funded accounting strongly preferred

Experience managing and developing accounting staff

Strong Excel skills and experience working with accounting and financial systems

Demonstrated experience improving accounting processes, controls, and reporting

Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with both accounting teams and senior leadership
Highly Preferred

Experience with Massachusetts human services organizations

Knowledge of Massachusetts EOHHS contracts

UFR reporting experience

Federal grant compliance experience
