Senior Accountant

Overview
A well-established real estate organization is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant to join its finance and accounting team. This position will support general ledger accounting, financial close, multi-entity accounting, and financial reporting across corporate and property-level entities.
The Senior Accountant will work closely with internal finance and operational teams, third-party property managers, and external accounting, audit, and tax professionals. This is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional with experience in real estate, property accounting, development, or other multi-entity environments.
Key Responsibilities
General Ledger & Financial Close
- Support general ledger accounting and maintain accurate books and records across multiple entities.
- Prepare journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes.
- Prepare and review standalone and consolidated financial statements.
- Support consolidation and intercompany elimination entries.
- Ensure financial information is accurate, timely, and audit-ready.
Corporate Accounting
- Support accounting for payroll, employee benefits, operating expenses, prepaids, accruals, fixed assets, and depreciation.
- Review general ledger coding and assist with payment processing and annual reporting requirements.
- Maintain accounts receivable and assist with billing and revenue reconciliations.
- Support revenue recognition and other corporate accounting activities.
Intercompany, Cash & Treasury
- Prepare and maintain cost-allocation schedules across entities, projects, and properties.
- Review and reconcile intercompany activity and assist with settlements and elimination entries.
- Support cash management, liquidity reporting, and cash forecasting.
- Assist with debt accounting, debt-service activity, and covenant reporting.
Budgeting, Reporting & Audit
- Assist with annual budgets, forecasts, and budget-to-actual reporting.
- Analyze operating expenses, overhead, revenue, and profitability.
- Prepare financial reports and supporting schedules for management.
- Prepare audit schedules and assist with financial statement audits, tax preparation, and other compliance requirements.
- Support internal controls, accounting policies, and financial recordkeeping procedures.
Property & Multi-Entity Accounting
- Maintain owner-level accounting records for property and ownership entities.
- Coordinate accounting and reporting requirements with third-party property management teams.
- Review property-level financial reporting for completeness and accuracy.
- Prepare owner-level journal entries, accruals, adjustments, debt activity, cash activity, and intercompany transactions.
- Assist with property and ownership-entity monthly closes and financial statement preparation.
- Reconcile property-level reporting to the appropriate ownership entities.
Property Financial Analysis & Reporting
- Review property operating results, including revenue, operating expenses, NOI, and budget-to-actual variances.
- Identify unusual trends, discrepancies, and accounting issues.
- Support reporting related to cash, debt, reserves, restricted cash, and capital expenditures.
- Assist with financial information used for annual planning, forecasting, refinancing, acquisitions, dispositions, and other business initiatives.
- Support owner, investor, joint venture, lender, and regulatory reporting as needed.
Process Improvement & Collaboration
- Help maintain consistent accounting and close procedures across multiple entities.
- Identify opportunities to streamline accounting workflows and reduce manual processes.
- Support accounting system and chart-of-accounts integrity.
- Collaborate with teams across finance, operations, property management, asset management, development, construction, legal, tax, and other business functions.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of relevant accounting experience, preferably within real estate, property management, development, or another multi-entity environment.
- Strong experience with general ledger accounting, month-end close, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
- Experience with multi-entity accounting and intercompany transactions.
- Exposure to partnership or joint venture accounting is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience with accounting/ERP systems such as Yardi, Sage Intacct, Sage 300 CRE, QuickBooks, or similar platforms.
- Experience working with external auditors and tax professionals.
- Ability to independently manage competing deadlines and accounting responsibilities across multiple entities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
- CPA or CPA candidate preferred, but not required.
