A growing organization in the equipment and infrastructure-related sector is looking for a hands-on Controller to help launch and build the accounting function for a newly established business operation in Jacksonville.
This is not a traditional “step into an existing department and maintain it” Controller role. The person coming in will have the opportunity to build the finance and accounting infrastructure from the ground up—helping establish systems, processes, controls, reporting procedures and, over time, the accounting team itself.
The business operates in a combination of equipment sales, rental, service and related manufacturing activities and is part of a larger, established organization with operations outside of Florida. The Jacksonville operation is in an early stage of growth, creating significant visibility and long-term upside for someone who enjoys building, improving and taking ownership.
This could be an excellent opportunity for a Controller, Assistant Controller or similar accounting leader who has worked in a growing, multi-entity environment and wants the ability to put their fingerprints on a business rather than simply maintain what is already in place.
What You’ll Do
- Take ownership of the day-to-day accounting and financial reporting activities for the Jacksonville operation
- Help design and implement accounting processes, internal controls, reporting procedures and scalable workflows
- Oversee general ledger activity, month-end close, account reconciliations and financial statement preparation
- Manage accounting activity across multiple entities, including intercompany transactions and consolidations
- Provide oversight of accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management and other transactional accounting functions
- Support budgeting, forecasting and financial planning
- Partner with senior leadership on financial performance, reporting and business decisions
- Ensure accurate and timely compliance with applicable tax, regulatory and reporting requirements
- Improve systems and processes as the operation grows
- Help evaluate future accounting staffing needs and ultimately build out the local finance/accounting team
- Support special projects and other initiatives associated with a rapidly growing business
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including hands-on management or leadership responsibility
- Experience working in a manufacturing, equipment, industrial or closely related environment
- Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, AP, AR, reconciliations and month-end close
- Multi-entity accounting experience, including intercompany activity and/or consolidations
- Experience working within a high-growth organization or helping build/improve an accounting function
- Someone comfortable being very hands-on and operating independently, particularly during the initial build-out stage
- Strong Excel skills and general accounting systems proficiency
- Ability to create structure, establish priorities and solve problems in an evolving environment
Helpful, But Not Required
- QuickBooks experience
- Equipment dealership, heavy equipment, rental or similar industry experience
- Experience implementing or improving accounting systems and processes
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This is a brand-new position tied to the launch and growth of a new business operation, giving the incoming Controller considerably more ownership than most established Controller roles.
You’ll have the opportunity to:
- Build rather than inherit the accounting function
- Establish the processes and infrastructure that will support future growth
- Help build your own accounting team as the organization expands
- Work directly with senior financial leadership
- Gain significant visibility within a growing organization
- Take ownership of a business at an early stage and see your work through over the long term
The company is specifically looking for someone who wants to plant roots, build something meaningful and grow alongside the business.
Compensation & Benefits
- 401(k) with company match
- Medical, dental and vision insurance
- Life insurance
- Paid time off
