Grinding Machine Operator

Job Title: ID/OD Grinder
Pay: $17-$30/hr
Shift: 1st Shift 7:00AM – 3:30PM Monday – Friday
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Summary
ID/OD Grinder is responsible for setting up and operating internal and external grinding machines to produce parts that meet required specifications. This role also performs in-process inspection, supports equipment upkeep, and helps maintain quality, safety, and productivity standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate ID and OD grinding machines.
  • Inspect products to ensure compliance with required specifications.
  • Use inspection equipment such as calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, optical comparators, and other quality measurement tools as needed.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly preventive maintenance as assigned.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Follow all safety rules and report unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Support quality performance by minimizing scrap and rework.
  • Work efficiently to meet production goals and delivery expectations.
  • Move work throughout the department, load and unload parts, fixture parts in machines and inspection setups, and inspect finished components and tooling.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED preferred; equivalent combination of education and experience considered.
  • At least some related manufacturing experience or training is helpful; the source document lists one to three months of related experience and/or training as the target level.
  • Ability to read and understand simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Basic math skills, including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions and solve routine shop-floor problems involving a few concrete variables.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work well with others, accept feedback, and contribute to a positive team environment.

Work Environment

  • Manufacturing environment with loud noise levels.
  • Regular work around moving mechanical parts.
  • Physical Requirements
  • Frequently stand during the shift and regularly walk throughout the work area.
  • Perform hand use and reaching as needed to handle parts, tools, and inspection equipment.
  • Close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus are required
