The Research and AI Solutions Librarian provides expert research and reference services to over 250 attorneys and business professionals. The role promotes and supports the use of AI enabled research tools through direct attorney engagement and integration into daily work. The position also supports core Library operations, including managing research resources and maintaining the Library catalog and research portal.

Research & Reference Services (approximately 65% of the role)

  • Serves as a point of contact for legal and non-legal reference and research questions, delivering accurate, well-sourced, and timely answers to attorneys and business professionals.
  • Conducts in-depth research across internal and external collections using both traditional and AI-assisted research tools.
  • Performs searches, document retrieval, and interlibrary loan as needed to fully answer research requests.
  • Provides intelligence to support business development and ongoing or prospective legal work.
  • Ensures accurate and timely delivery of information resources to attorneys and business professionals.
  • Contributes to the research request intake process, helping ensure requests are routed and prioritized effectively.
  • Monitors news, court dockets, and legislative and regulatory developments across the firm’s key practice areas and clients, delivering timely insights to attorneys and business professionals, keeping them informed without information overload.
  • Maintains manual docket alerts where automated alerts are not available, ensuring timely monitoring, updates, and distribution of relevant case developments.

AI Research, Innovation & Adoption (approximately 25% of the role)

  • Along with the Senior Library Services Manager, this role will act as one of the Library’s advocates for AI in legal research with a primary focus on Lexis Protege, as well as other AI tools such as Copilot, Claude, and DeepJudge.
  • Conducts proactive, one-on-one outreach to attorneys and business professionals, learning their practice specific workflows and demonstrating how AI tools might solve research problems they face.
  • Assists attorneys with developing and refining AI supported research workflows that improve efficiency, quality and accuracy of legal research.
  • Evaluates new and emerging AI research products, runs pilots, and recommends adoption decisions to the Senior Library Services Manager.
  • Develops and delivers group trainings, practice-group presentations, continuing legal education sessions, and learning materials related to legal research and AI technologies.

Administration & Operations (approximately 10% of the role)

  • Works with vendors and accounts payable to review and process department invoices and ensure they are paid on time.
  • Responsible for updating and maintaining Library catalog and research portal.
  • Facilitates access to electronic resources, including password and account management.
  • Compiles usage statistics and reports to support resource evaluation and renewal decisions.
  • Participates in Library and knowledge management programs and special projects.
  • Acts for the Senior Library Services Manager in the their absence, overseeing library operations during those periods.
  • Manages the interlibrary loan process, including requesting, tracking, and delivering materials to ensure timely access to resources not held by the firm.

  • Maintains current knowledge of trends and developments affecting legal research, AI, and the firm, and shares that knowledge across departments.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in library and information science from an A.L.A.-accredited library school, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of legal reference and research experience, preferably in a mid-to-large law firm or corporate library.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and use AI-assisted research tools. Direct experience with Lexis+ AI (Protege) is strongly preferred; familiarity with Copilot, Claude, or DeepJudge is a plus.
  • Expertise with computer-based research tools, including but not limited to Lexis, Bloomberg Law, PacerPro, VitalLaw, Lex Machina, Intelligize, Capital IQ, HeinOnline, and efileMA.
  • Strong overall technical aptitude, including online research services, email, and all MS Office applications.
  • Proven ability to set priorities and complete diverse assignments on a timely basis.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills.
