Experience/Skills
- Must have current license as a Registered Nurse in NC.
- At least one year experience as a registered nurse. Experience in Hematology/Oncology/ Chemo treatment required.
Pay: $64-95K salary range (based on experience!)
Full-time schedule is Monday-Friday, 8a.m. – 5 p.m.
About the role
Responsible for the delivery of patient care through the nursing process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Responsible for directing and coordinating all nursing care based on established clinical nursing practices. RN will prepare and infuse chemotherapy as well as other IV/Injectable medications as prescribed by the provider. Collaborates with other professional disciplines to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes.

- Planning, organizing, communicating, problem solving, decision-making, attention to detail, adaptability, good judgement and maintains a customer service focus.
- Demonstrates responsible decision making in planning, providing, and delegating care based on assessment.
- Ability to perform accurate ongoing assessment of patient status.
- Effectively plans interventions, evaluates response, and reassess plan of care and documents response on the care plan.
- Communicates effectively. Establishes and maintains two-way communications with peers, staff, physicians, and leadership.
- Follows through on problems that may compromise patient care by using the appropriate chain of command.
- Communicates appropriate information that may impact patient care to MD/PA/FNP in a timely manner.
- Administers, monitors, and documents all prescribed medications in accordance with MD/PA/FNP orders and organizational policy. Reports any adverse drug reactions in a timely manner.
- Safely performs IV therapy (venous access, PAC, Hickman, PICC)
- Enters verbal orders given by MD/PA/FNP regarding treatments. Reviews and calls the MD/PA/FNP with any abnormalities.
- Documentation is timely, accurate and reflects patient problems identified in the plan of care.
- Performs all other duties within the RN scope of practice once competencies completed.
- Demonstrates proper measures to promote patient safety.
- Properly disposes of sharps and chemotherapy waste per policy.
- Demonstrates proper use of medical equipment used in the department.
- Assists physicians with procedures as needed.
- Handles specimens and Chemotherapy spills according to PE OSHA policy.
- Organizes and prioritizes elements of patient care.
- Provide chemotherapy education to patients with information regarding their treatment regimen, tips on how to manage side effects and information on local resources and support.
- Delegates appropriate tasks and duties to other members of the health care team.
- Effectively role models professional behavior.
- Exhibits a neat and clean appearance and is courteous.
- Reports to work as scheduled, in appropriate attire.
- Within 2-5 years of employment the RN is strongly encouraged to obtain certification in oncology nursing (OCN). Time frame will depend on your level of training.
- Prior to infusing regimen ensure authorization process is complete.
- Learn to mix chemotherapy.
- Perform double check of drug calculations prior to preparing chemotherapy. Chair side check is done with two RNs to ensure the Five Rights of Medication Administration are verified. Documents that the double check was performed.
- Ensure patient’s follow-up appointments are secured.
- Maintains a good attendance record and reports to work on time as set forth in Physicians East Personnel Handbook.

Candidate requirements
- Must have current license as a Registered Nurse in NC.
- Prefer at least one year experience as a registered nurse. Experience in Hematology/Oncology required.
