Hiring for a Physical Therapist Assistant in Silver Spring, MD

Pay rate: $32-38/hour (based on experience)
Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5pm 40 hours/week (can be slightly flexible on start time), also open to  3 12-hour shifts/week (36 hours/week)
Setting: Outpatient office 
 

  • Must be comfortable with using a translation service if not bilingual in Spanish or other languages as needed

Requirements:

  • Associate Degree: graduate from a Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE)-accredited PTA program (typically a 2-year program)
  • Active PTA license in the state of Maryland 
  • Experience working as a physical therapist assistant 
  • Bilingual Spanish/English a plus 
  • Experience working in an outpatient physical therapy office a plus 

Job Overview: 

  • A physical therapist assistant (PTA) delivers hands-on rehabilitative care to help patients manage pain, regain mobility, and recover from injuries or surgeries under the direct supervision of a licensed physical therapist (PT). They act as the primary implementers of a patient’s customized treatment
  • Carrying out physical therapy treatments designed and supervised by a licensed Physical Therapist (PT)
  • Will be working from patients ages 18+ 
  • Leading patients through customized stretching, strength training, balance, and endurance routines to build functional mobility
  • Using modalities like therapeutic massage, ultrasound therapy, heat/ice treatments, and electrical muscle stimulation to alleviate pain
  • Helping patients perform therapeutic exercises, stretches, and utilizing equipment to improve mobility, strength, and relieve pain
  • Observing patients before, during, and after sessions, taking performance measurements, and reporting detailed updates back to the supervising PT
  • Coaching patients and caregivers on how to safely use medical equipment (like walkers, crutches, or prosthetics) and execute home exercise programs
  • Instructing patients and their families on how to perform safe home exercise programs
  • Keeping accurate, detailed medical records of patient progress and treatment
