Senior Payroll Specialist

A growing and highly stable organization is seeking an experienced Senior Payroll Specialist to join its payroll operations team in Melville, NY.
This position plays a critical role in ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing for a large employee population in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will have strong payroll tax knowledge, experience handling high-volume payroll, and the ability to operate effectively under strict weekly deadlines.
Responsibilities
- Process full-cycle weekly payroll accurately and on time
- Handle payroll tax processing and compliance matters
- Review and audit payroll changes for accuracy
- Process direct deposit requests and payroll adjustments
- Review electronic timesheets and resolve discrepancies
- Support employee payroll inquiries and issue resolution
- Manage PTO, deductions, garnishments, and related payroll functions
- Assist with payroll reporting and reconciliation
- Support tax registrations and compliance initiatives
- Maintain confidentiality of payroll information at all times
Qualifications
- 5+ years of payroll experience
- Strong payroll tax background required
- Experience processing high-volume payroll
- Multi-state payroll experience preferred
- Experience with Great Plains and/or Greenshades is a plus
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to thrive in a deadline-driven environment
- Excellent communication and employee support skills
