Position Overview
We are seeking an IP Assistant to join a professional legal team in Boston. This position will provide administrative and legal support to a firm partner and assist with U.S. patent prosecution, docket management, USPTO filings, and intellectual property matters.
The ideal candidate will have previous intellectual property experience, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced legal environment.
Responsibilities
- Support attorneys with U.S. patent prosecution matters.
- Maintain and monitor legal dockets, deadlines, and filing requirements.
- Prepare and file documents with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
- Assist with prior art and disclosure requirements, including Information Disclosure Statements.
- Track patent prosecution deadlines and ensure timely completion of required filings.
- Maintain accurate client, matter, and docket information.
- Assist with processing and reviewing client billing.
- Prepare correspondence and other legal documentation.
- Maintain electronic files and ensure data accuracy within internal systems.
- Coordinate with attorneys, clients, and other members of the legal team as needed.
- Provide additional administrative support to the practice group.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Previous intellectual property (IP) experience required.
- Prior experience with patent prosecution and USPTO filings strongly preferred.
- 2–5 years of experience in a law firm or legal environment preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage deadlines.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Experience with CPi, JURIS, DeskSite, IPDAS, or similar legal/IP software is a plus.
