Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced HR Leader to oversee and support a broad range of human resources functions within a dynamic, highly regulated organization. This individual will serve as a strategic HR partner to leadership while maintaining hands-on responsibility for key HR programs, employee relations, talent acquisition, compensation, benefits, and compliance.
The ideal candidate will come from a banking or financial services environment, though candidates from other highly regulated or professional services industries will be considered if they bring the full range of required HR leadership and generalist experience.
This role will directly manage two HR team members and will be expected to balance strategic leadership with hands-on execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the HR function, including direct supervision and development of two HR team members.
- Partner with senior leadership and managers on workforce planning, organizational development, talent strategy, and employee-related matters.
- Provide guidance and leadership across the full HR generalist function, including:
- Employee relations
- Recruiting and talent acquisition
- Benefits administration
- Compensation
- Performance management
- HR policies and procedures
- Employee engagement and retention
- Compliance
- Serve as a trusted advisor to managers and employees, providing guidance on performance issues, workplace concerns, investigations, and other employee relations matters.
- Lead recruiting efforts, including workforce planning, sourcing, interviewing, selection, and onboarding.
- Oversee compensation and benefits programs and ensure they remain competitive, compliant, and aligned with organizational objectives.
- Manage and administer employee benefit programs, with particular emphasis on retirement plans and ERISA requirements.
- Ensure HR practices and programs comply with applicable federal and state employment laws and regulations.
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve HR policies, processes, and programs.
- Partner with leadership on employee development, succession planning, and organizational effectiveness initiatives.
- Maintain accurate HR records and reporting while ensuring confidentiality and compliance.
- Support HR-related audits, regulatory requirements, and special projects as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 7+ years of progressive HR experience, including demonstrated HR leadership experience.
- Previous experience managing and developing HR team members, ideally with direct responsibility for two or more employees.
- SHRM-SCP, SHRM-CP, SPHR, or PHR certification preferred.
- Strong HR generalist background with demonstrated expertise across employee relations, recruiting, benefits, compensation, performance management, and HR compliance.
- Experience in banking, financial services, or another highly regulated industry strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state employment laws and HR best practices.
- Excellent judgment and discretion when handling sensitive employee and organizational matters.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to operate strategically while remaining comfortable being hands-on with day-to-day HR responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working within a bank, credit union, financial institution, or similar regulated environment.
- Knowledge of retirement plans, ERISA, and related compliance requirements.
- Experience overseeing or partnering with third-party benefits and retirement plan providers.
- Experience supporting executives and senior leadership on complex employee relations and organizational matters.
- Demonstrated ability to build and improve HR programs and processes in a growing or changing organization.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a well-rounded HR leader and hands-on generalist who can independently manage a broad HR portfolio while serving as a trusted partner to senior leadership. A banking or financial services background is highly desirable, particularly for candidates who have worked in a regulated environment.
We are also open to candidates outside of banking who can demonstrate strong HR leadership, direct people management, comprehensive generalist expertise, and experience with employee relations, recruiting, compensation, benefits, and HR compliance. Experience with retirement plans and ERISA requirements would be a significant plus.
