Herd Manager
Location: Rhode Island
Schedule: Full-Time, Year-Round
Salary: $70,000–$80,000
The client is seeking an experienced Herd Manager to oversee the health, productivity, and welfare of a 130+ head Holstein herd. This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for someone with strong dairy experience who enjoys working directly with animals while leading and developing a farm team.
What You’ll Do
- Oversee daily herd health, animal welfare, reproduction, and milk production
- Monitor herd performance, health records, reproduction, culling, and replacements
- Coordinate with veterinarians and nutritionists to optimize herd health and production
- Oversee calf care and development
- Lead, train, coach, and hold farm staff accountable
- Ensure proper safety, biosecurity, cleanliness, and regulatory compliance
- Identify opportunities to improve farm efficiency and animal care
- Assist with feed management, seasonal farm work, and equipment maintenance as needed
What We’re Looking For
- 3–5+ years of hands-on dairy herd management or farm leadership experience
- Strong knowledge of herd health, reproduction, nutrition, and milk production
- Leadership experience with the ability to coach and develop a team
- Experience with herd management/recordkeeping systems
- Ability to operate farm equipment including tractors and skid steers
- Associate’s degree in Animal Science, Dairy Management, or related field preferred; equivalent hands-on experience considered
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Flexibility to work early mornings, weekends, holidays, and varying schedules
