Hiring for a Residential Counselor in Bristow, VA. 

Pay rate: $20-25/hour (based on experience)
Shift: full time and part time opportunities available 

  • Part Time (must be bilingual in Spanish/English):
    • Saturdays & Sundays 6:30am-6:30pm or 6:30pm-6:30am. 
  • Full time openings (must be bilingual in Spanish/English):
    • Open shifts: Saturdays & Sundays 6:30 am-6:30 pm or 6:30 pm-6:30 am and 2 week days with shift of 10:30 pm-6:30 am  
    • Weekday Evenings (2 days) 2:30p-10:30p and Saturday and Sunday 6:30a- 6:30p or 8:30a-8:30p
    • Weekday Overnights (2 days) 10:30PM -6:30 AM and Saturday and Sunday 6:30 PM -6:30 AM or 8:30 PM-8:30 AM

Setting: inpatient/residential – residents are ages 12-17 (males and females) –  Residents live and go to school on campus. 

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Age 21 or above as per state regulations and standards.
  • Knowledge and understanding of mission and values;
  • Possess the characteristics and experience to collaborate with and provide appropriate care to residents, gain their respect, guide their development, and participate in their overall treatment program;
  • Ability to support constructive resident-family visitation and resident involvement in community activities;
  • Ability to provide services in a culturally and linguistically competent manner;
  • Possess the temperament to work with and care for children, and youth, some with special needs in multiple age ranges;
  • Ability to accurately collect, review, and analyze waive testing of residents after home visits, AWOL, and as needed
  • Ability to work effectively with the treatment team and other internal and external stakeholders;
  • Adequate and continuous ongoing training and supervision
  • Ability to maintain a stable environment.
  • Ability to maintain safety, security, and structure at all times.
  • Ability to maintain the integrity of the program structure in the absence of House Parent/House Coordinator leadership.
  • Ability to attend, understand, pass, and demonstrate medication management protocols
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license which meets or exceeds insurance guidelines.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee physical care of residents.
  • Development of acceptable habits and attitudes for residents.
  • Management of resident behavior.
  • Assist in meeting the goals and objectives of any required service plan.
  • Responsible for guidance and supervision of the residents/children to whom assigned.
  • Responsible for the coordinated supervision of the residents to include but not limited to continued awareness and ability to give an account of each resident location upon request.
  • Confirm census count received from prior on-duty staff prior to assuming floor responsibilities. Census count must agree prior to shift departure.
  • Maintain shift coverage until the next shift is securely in position. If House Parents/Coordinators are not on duty, a full report is to be given to incoming staff which may take up to 15 minutes plus past then end of the shift time.
  • Confirm status and location of assigned residents every 15 minutes and if assigned to work overnight shift, every 30 minutes.
  • Maintain structure and regulations at all times; 24/7.
  • Completely and accurately document any required forms, particularly the daily log. This is to be completed prior to the ending shift.
  • Perform waive testing on residents after home visits, AWOL, and as needed with complete accuracy and compliance.
  • Attend all training mandated by company and continuously pursue training opportunities to meet standards set forth.
  • All duties and responsibilities will support meeting the structured program of care outlined in DBHDS and DSS state standards (DBHDS: 12VAC 35-46-800; DSS: 22 VAC 40-151-720).
  • Other duties as assigned by the CEO, Director – Program Services, Director – Residential, or Supervisor

  • Ability to supervise, tolerate, and resolve frustrated or strained personnel and interpersonal conflicts of residents.
  • Must have the awareness to observe, interpret, and respond appropriately to various adolescent behaviors.
  • Must be able to exhibit decision making abilities.
  • Extensive knowledge of Standards for Interdepartmental Regulation of Children’s Residential Facilities is required
