Hiring for a Licensed Optician in Andover, MA
Permanent (direct hire) role.
Schedule: Monday thru Friday 8:30am-6pm
Position Description:
- The Licensed Dispensing Optician provides exceptional patient service throughout the optical experience. Working collaboratively with optometrists, leadership, and clinical staff, this role supports efficient office operations and a seamless patient experience. The RDO leads the optical department through partnership with the Director of Operations to ensure policy compliance, keeping benchmark measurements to establish sales goals, and supports departmental growth to achieve performance objectives.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure excellent customer service experience and individualized attention to patients from the initial greeting through the final dispense. Maintain smooth patient flow throughout the frame purchase life cycle.
- Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the optical department, including eyewear sales, dispensing, ordering, inventory management, insurance authorizations, and patient communication.
- Assist patients with frame and lens selection based on prescription, facial measurements, lifestyle, and visual needs.
- Educate patients on lens options, coatings, warranties, eyewear care, policies, returns, and order status updates.
- Accurately process eyewear orders, verify prescriptions and measurements, and ensure quality dispensing with minimal remakes.
- Maintain accurate billing, sales postings, daily balancing of payments, and proper processing of optical charges and deposits.
- Coordinate with laboratories and vendors regarding lens and frame orders.
- Notify patients when eyewear orders are completed and perform frame fittings, adjustments, troubleshooting, and repairs to ensure patient satisfaction.
- Open and close the optical department as scheduled and maintain a clean, organized, and professional dispensary environment.
- Maintain knowledge of current optical products, technology, trends, and insurance plans while participating in staff education and meetings.

Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or G.E.D
- Massachusetts Licensed Dispensing Optician
