Compensation: $60,000 – $67,000

About the Opportunity

A well-established nonprofit organization in the Hartford area is seeking a Bookkeeper to join their finance team. This position reports directly to the Controller and plays a key role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting day-to-day accounting operations.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong hands-on bookkeeping experience who enjoys working in a mission-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process vendor invoices, purchase orders, and daily financial transactions
  • Record cash receipts, checks, and deposits accurately
  • Maintain and reconcile financial records and reports
  • Assist with journal entries and basic account reconciliations
  • Generate financial reports (balance sheets, transaction summaries, etc.)
  • Track vendor activity and maintain W-9 documentation
  • Support year-end processes, including 1099 preparation
  • Manage petty cash and assist with administrative finance tasks
  • Communicate with internal teams and external vendors as needed

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of bookkeeping or general accounting experience (required)
  • Non-profit experience (required)
  • Experience with accounting software (Financial Edge NXT or similar preferred)
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Comfortable handling transactional accounting responsibilities
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred (Not Required)

  • Coursework or certifications in bookkeeping/accounting
  • Exposure to billing functions

  • Degree not required — practical bookkeeping experience is the priority
