Position Summary:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                 

The Senior Finance and Operations Analyst is responsible for providing analysis and project management support for finance, quality, and performance improvement initiatives. The role collaborates with senior leadership, departments, and staff to ensure the successful implementation of initiatives that support organizational goals, including advanced analytics, developing and implementing performance improvement strategies, and monitoring key metrics. The Senior Analyst manages the full lifecycle of analytic projects—from requirements gathering to insights delivery. The position reports directly to Director of Finance and Operational Analytics.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities Includes the Following:                                     

  1. Financial Management:
    1. Assist in the preparation of the annual operating and capital budget requests and maintain the appropriate supporting documentation.
    2. Proactively prepare data for all finance functions, including monthly financial and statistical reports, position control, staffing, utilization, capacity planning, budget variance analyses and presents findings to leadership.
    3. Manage departmental financial operations, including monthly reviews and analyzing variances.
    4. Assist with the development and preparation of profit and loss analyses. Responsible for analytics and makes recommendations based on outcomes and trends.
    5. Participate in the development and analysis of business plans for new programs and capital expenditures, identifying opportunities for revenue enhancement and cost containment.
  2. Operational Analytics:
    1. Analyze, interpret and summarize data to facilitate decision-making for stakeholders; communicate insights verbally, visually and in writing to internal and external stakeholders.
    2. Manages the entire analytic process, from stakeholder requirements through data validation, analysis, and presentation of findings.
    3. Develop standardized approaches for operational issues, reporting and analysis measures. Review key measures on a regular basis and develop new measures as needed.
    4. Facilitate multidisciplinary task forces to identify performance opportunities, track progress, and communicate outcomes.
    5. Prepare, maintain and present analyses for ad-hoc requests for hospital senior leadership as required.
  3. Technical:
    1. Extract, clean, and integrate data from multiple sources using SQL, Excel, and Power BI while maintaining high standards of data quality.
    2. Write, document, and optimize SQL queries, including the use of subqueries, window functions, and performance-tuning techniques.
    3. Create and maintain Power BI dashboards with advanced measures, optimized data models, and clear, actionable visual design.
    4. Conduct analyses using SQL, Power BI, and Excel, applying advanced formulas, joins, aggregates, and DAX calculations.
    5. Proactively identify data quality issues, ensuring traceability, accuracy and reliability in final analysis.
    6. Provide clear documentation and translate technical findings into actionable insights for non-technical audiences.
  4. Communication & Collaboration
    1. Prepare and deliver presentations tailored for both technical and non-technical audiences.
    2. Build strong stakeholder relationships, managing expectations and aligning data deliverables with business needs.
    3. Propose improvements to processes, metrics, and analyses that strengthen operational performance and patient outcomes.
    4. Serve as a subject matter resource for SQL, Power BI, and Excel within the team, guiding best practices and knowledge sharing.
    5. Ensures all HIPAA requirements, data governance standards, and reproducibility practices are met.
    6. Work independently and proactively on complex projects, completing deliverables in a timely manner to meet internal and external deadlines.
    7. Understand and adhere to the WPH Performance Standards, Policies and Behaviors.
    8. Perform all other related duties as assigned

Education & Experience Requirements                                                                          

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required; a Master’s degree is strongly preferred.
  • 3+ years of progressive experience in healthcare finance, quality improvement, business intelligence analytics, or a consulting environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to write complex SQL queries, optimize performance, and work with large datasets.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills 
  • Strong Excel skills, including advanced formulas, pivot tables, and basic modeling.
  • Proficient in Power BI with experience in DAX, data modeling, and dashboard optimization.
  • Experience with Epic, Midas, or similar healthcare applications preferred.
  • Knowledge of healthcare systems and business practices preferred.
  • Knowledge of budgeting and decision support systems preferred.
  • Understanding of database structures, hospital operations, hospital quality measures, and revenue cycle processes highly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word) required.

  • Position requires the ability to maintain positive relationships with peers, supervisors, Department Heads, Senior Staff and Representatives of outside Agencies.
  • The position works closely with other members of the Finance, IT, Nursing, Patient Accounting and Human Resource Departments and must be able to maintain productive working relationships with all other ancillary departments as required.
  • Position must exhibit integrity and confidentiality in dealing with information which can be sensitive in nature, including information which may fall under HIPAA regulations.
  • Position must be able to retain composure under stress.

 

Physical/Mental Demands/Requirements & Work Environment                                                                                                                                                                              

  • May be exposed to chemicals necessary to perform required tasks. Any hazardous chemicals the employee may be exposed to are listed in the hospital’s SDS (Safety Data Sheet) data base and may be accessed through the hospital’s Intranet site (Employee Tools/SDS Access).
