As a Lead Tax Research Analyst with The Tax Institute (TTI), you will conduct independent, in-depth research and analysis on complex federal and state tax matters. In this role, you will work independently and collaborate closely with other research team members to proactively identify and resolve tax-related issues, ensuring full compliance with established research standards. You will deliver well-reasoned, thoroughly evaluated responses to technical tax inquiries from field management and tax professionals. 

 

Develop and put into practice sound research methods, quality training practices, as well as measurable productivity and work-product standards. Coordinate team projects, forecasts work volume, identifies potential improvement areas, and plans team operations to ensure best possible results. Cultivate independent tax research, tax preparation, and tax analysis skills within other team members. Resolve questions from customers, tax professionals, and internal associates. Provide tax-related guidance and project updates both within the department as well as to other H&R Block departments.


Day to day, you'll ...

  • Monitor and coordinate the day-to-day activities of a tax research project team to implement sound tax research processes and identify/resolve tax-related issues
  • Participate in day-to-day projects to identify and resolve either tax-related or work-related issues. Lead research team projects to provide tax guidance to other departments and operations within H&R Block and streamline department operations
  • Perform independent research, tax preparation, and analysis of federal, state, local, and international tax issues and forms. Resolve tax-related questions from customers, tax professionals, and other H&R Block departments
  • Research, analyze, and evaluate current year tax questions, tax forms, and other tax-related issues to determine potential internal impact for H&R Block and its operations, and provides guidance as needed
  • Provide written and verbal updates, as needed, on any identified new developments in tax law, including legislative changes, court decisions, and administrative guidance - write and publish online tax articles
  • Participate in media interviews and assist marketing and communications teams with tax accuracy reviews
  • Utilize gen AI to work efficiently and test gen AI for tax use cases

 

What you'll bring to the team...:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or the equivalent through a combination of education and related work experience.
  • 8 years minimum related work experience
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of the company
  • Ability to interpret, analyze, and correctly formulate solutions to highly complex tax situations
  • Circular 230 credentials (Enrolled Agent, CPA, or Attorney) or willing to obtain within one year of employment
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively research complex tax issues and effectively communicate findings
  • Demonstrated critical, conceptual, intellectual, and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of tax research principles, procedures, and techniques
  • Operational knowledge of tax law and regulations sufficient to understand and explain elements of personal, corporate, partnership, fiduciary, estate, gift, and international taxation
  • Proficiency with at least one online tax research tool
  • Writing skills to explain complex tax information in a clear manner and in plain language

  • Post-graduate degree in a related field or the equivalent through a combination of education and related work experience
  • Knowledge of Federal and State tax administration to include litigation, tax compliance, and auditing

Pay Range Information: The pay range for this position is listed below. Local minimum wage laws apply. Individual pay decisions will depend on job-related factors such as experience, education, skill, performance, and geographic location where work will be performed. Successful candidates may be able to participate in one or more incentive compensation or short-term incentive plans, which could generate additional earnings in accordance with the terms of each plan. Qualifying associates can enroll themselves and/or their eligible dependents in medical and prescription drug coverage; can participate in the H&R Block Retirement Savings Plan (401(k) Plan), the Employee Assistance Program, (virtual) fitness center programs, and the associate discount program; are automatically enrolled in Business Travel Accident Insurance; and receive Associate Tax Prep benefit. Pay Range: $73,400.00 - $110,100.00/Yr.
