Operations & Finance Intern

Job Description

About Us

Hemut is transforming the American trucking industry through software and operational technology. Since founding in December 2024, we've graduated from YC X25, raised a multi-million-dollar seed round, and partnered with leading players in the space. The way work gets done is changing fast — come help build the systems that are changing it.

The role

We're hiring an Operations & Finance Intern to work directly with our COO/CFO as their right hand across the operational and financial backbone of the company. You'll get unfiltered exposure to how an early-stage YC company actually runs — finance, HR, legal, compliance, and everything in between — and you'll help build the systems that let a small team move fast.

What you'll actually do

This is a rotating, broad-exposure role. In a given week you might:

  • Run end-to-end accounting: Handle bookkeeping, journal entries, reconciliations, month-end close, and reporting.
  • You'll be trusted with real money: Support oversight of $100K+ in monthly transactions flowing through the company (payroll, expenditures, vendor payments).
  • Own HR logistics: Manage payroll runs, benefits and insurance enrollment, and onboarding logistics.
  • Enforce the line: Uphold and enforce internal company policies evenly across teams.
  • Coordinate legal workstreams: Work alongside outside counsel on contracts and corporate housekeeping.
  • Execute CEO bizops: Tackle outreach, research, and special projects directly from the CEO.
  • Drive operational initiatives: Lead major internal projects like SOC 2 compliance and ERP rollouts.

Who you are

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program
  • Available 20+ hours/week
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable juggling unrelated workstreams
  • Low ego, high ownership — you'll be trusted with sensitive work from day one

Logistics

  • Phase 1 (Academic Year): Remote, part-time, unpaid.
  • Phase 2 (Summer): In-person, full-time in Fresno, CA (estimated move-in early June). $500/month stipend + food and housing provided; summer residency contingent on performance during Phase 1.
  • Start as soon as possible

Perks & Tooling

We believe in giving you the resources you need to execute at a high level.

  • The Tech Stack: You’ll get premium access to the tools needed to multiply your output from Day 1, including Claude, Calendly, and our broader suite of corporate tools and subscriptions.
  • Summer Residency Support: All food and housing costs are fully provided by the company for in-person, full-time employees
  • The Full-Time Horizon: We want you to stay. For those who convert to a Full-Time offer, the compensation package scales up significantly to include comprehensive insurance, ongoing food and housing provisions, and full startup benefits.
