About the role:

The Shipping & Receiving Clerk manages inbound and outbound freight deliveries, inspections, transferring to and from warehouse or loading onto delivery vehicles. They are in charge of receiving, shipping, and keeping records of part movements as well as ensuring quick and efficient management of this process.



Roles/Tasks of the Position:

  • Responsible for all inbound and outbound deliveries and procedures.
  • Responsible for final inspection or viewing of outgoing shipments and loads.
  • Responsible for taking photographic images of outgoing shipments after they are strapped and ready to head out, verifying and recording all items loaded.
  • Responsible for accepting and declining deliveries and shipments. Documenting damage claims for in-transit damage.
  • Responsible for QC ensuring the correct amount and verifying with packing slip that the correct quantity is pulled and shipped. Before scheduling pick up.
  • Responsible for packaging.
  • Ensure all material job numbers and bundles match packing slip.
  • Must confirm weight and measurements for shipping.
  • Must be able to maintain collaboration with the Material Handler to unload and load orders and deliveries.
  • Must be able to correspond to emails and phone calls with Platform Freight for scheduling and getting status updates (ETA), as well as reaching out to site contacts to coordinate deliveries.
  • Receives goods and verifies the quality and count of all items unloaded from railroad cars, trucks, and trailers; checks against suppliers’ count.
  • Carefully and accurately maintains shipping records for requested categories including goods returned, dunnage, and returnable pallets.
  • Maintain database of shipment data to ensure that customer orders are updated and that appropriate billing documents are provided to accounting or other associated departments as required.
  • Immediately notify supervisor, carrier and purchasing officer of major discrepancies, over-shipments, or substitutions.
  • Prepare bills of lading.
  • Transport materials on shipping dock with a hand truck or other vehicle as needed.
  • Load trucks using a forklift.
  • Perform other clerical duties.

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Computer literate; able to quickly pick up on necessary programs.
  • Warehouse or comparable experience preferred.
  • Self-starter with willingness to learn, collaborate, and contribute.
  • Permit for operation of forklift highly preferred.

  • Working in hot, humid environments.  
  • Lifting of up to 50 pounds, bending, climbing (stairs and structures), and stooping. 
  • Keyboarding/typing. 
  • Ability to read effectively from a computer screen and/or paper copy. 
  • Ability to manage a large volume of work and perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. 

Prerequisites/Requirements:

  • Negative 10 panel urinalysis and breath alcohol test.
  • Valid Driver's License and Proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • Background check.
