Learn About a Day in the Life of a Monitor Technician:

Responsibilities:
  • Provide advanced ECG monitoring with a focus on assessment of ECG strips and arrhythmia interpretation.
  • May also be responsible for monitoring alerts from patient wearable devices, including escalation to a Virtual RN.
  • Possess troubleshooting skills to recognize monitoring the problems, identify probable causes, and seek solutions to correct the problem.
  • Identify and respond to potentially life-threatening rhythm changes, initiate codes, record rhythms during code, and continuous EKG monitoring with accurate interpretation of cardiac rhythms and dysrhythmias and interval measurements.
  • Appropriately responding to all monitor alarms.
  • Must be able to manage multiple technology platforms and develop collaborative relationships with other staff via remote platforms.
Qualifications:

Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must complete the cardiac monitoring exam.
  • BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.

  • Ability to demonstrate arrhythmia recognition.

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Associate degree in a related field.
  • One (1) year in the specialty area, rhythm recognition skill set.
