Wen School of Population & Public Health is the achievement of health equity for all populations through research, teaching, service, and public health practice, locally and globally. Championing the principles of evidence-based public health science, Wen Public Health aspires to understand and impact population-level social, biological, and environmental determinants of health and well-being.

Big Data Training for Cancer Research" (BigCARE) is open to cancer researchers including oncologists, faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students. The workshop will be held on-site at the University of California Irvine, in Irvine, CA.



Responsibilities:

UC Irvine Joe C Wen School of Population & Public Health and the the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (CFCCC) of the University of California, Irvine will hold the annual NCI-funded workshop on “Big Data Training for Cancer Research” (BigCARE) in the summer of 2026.

We are seeking a highly organized program assistant to work closely with administrative staff and leadership to develop and implement this program. This assistant will be the gatekeeper and main point of contact for the workshop, answering student questions, working with nationally recognized speakers, booking reservations and catering, purchasing and reimbursements, and more. The person must have strong communication skills, demonstrate good judgment, be fiscally responsible, have a and professional demeanor.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Demonstrates ability to engage diverse communities – ethnic/racial minoritized communities and sexual and gender minoritized communities – in public health programs through outreach, recruitment, education, community organizing, and community advisory boards.
  • Proficient in communication and interpersonal skills to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficient in ability to use discretion and maintain all confidentiality.
  • Demonstrates ability to use sound judgment in responding to issues and concerns.
  • Demonstrates ability to analyze, research and synthesize large amounts of data with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficient in ability to multi-task with demanding timeframes.
  • Must have strong communication skills
  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
  • 3-5 years


Preferred:

  • Working knowledge of health disparities and related topics impacting sexual and gender minoritized communities and their social etiology. Topics may include but is not limited to: HIV/AIDS, substance use, mental health, gender affirming care, discrimination and violence, intersectional oppressions, healthcare utilization, technology.


Special Conditions:

  • May work one or two weekend days when program begins 
  • May work after normal working business hours
