Business Intelligence Analyst III (Des Moines)

Job Description

What You'll Do:

As a Business Intelligence Analyst III, you will be a key analytics contributor on a cross‑functional product team comprised of Data Engineering, Data Analytics, and Product Management, helping define the strategy and analytical direction for data products that enable informed, data‑driven decision making. In this role, you will design and deliver dashboards and visualizations, while also performing deeper, advanced analyses as needed to uncover insights and support data‑driven storytelling. You’ll translate complex business needs into clear, consumable insights by defining key metrics, analytical approaches, and success measures, partnering closely with data engineering and product management to ensure scalable, well‑designed solutions that align to business outcomes.

This position supports our Finance, Actuarial, and Accounting teams from a data analytics perspective, making experience in these disciplines especially valuable. You’ll investigate trends using sound analytical reasoning, exploratory data analysis, and data visualization to deliver meaningful, interactive decision support tools.

You will serve as an Analytics Technical Lead within a cross‑functional product team, collaborating closely with data engineering, data analytics, and product management partners to help refine business problems, shape solution approaches, and influence the data products delivered to stakeholders. The ideal candidate brings strong Business Intelligence capabilities, balanced with an aptitude and curiosity for advanced analytics, and can effectively bridge technical expertise with business context through clear communication and data‑driven storytelling.

This role also plays a critical part in supporting compliance and regulatory reporting. You will help ensure data accuracy, consistency, and timeliness for reporting with tight deadlines and a high degree of scrutiny, partnering closely with Finance, Accounting, Actuarial, and product stakeholders.

We’re seeking someone with demonstrated experience designing and building dashboards, summarizing large and complex datasets, and influencing outcomes through data‑driven insights.

What you will be doing:

  • Make key data & metrics easily consumable for data‑driven decision‑making. Gather, format, and present data and business context to create meaningful numeric and graphical summaries. Function as a data subject matter expert, helping define common metrics, data standards, and analytical requirements in partnership with data engineering, data analytics, and product management.
  • Design, build, and maintain dashboards and reporting solutions, creating interactive and compelling visual, numeric, and written summaries aligned to product and business objectives.
  • Perform deeper and advanced analyses, as needed, to identify trends, explain outcomes, and support data‑driven storytelling for business and leadership audiences.
  • Collaborate with product management to help refine ambiguous business problems into clear analytical questions, contributing to roadmap discussions and prioritization from an analytics perspective.
  • Partner with data engineering to ensure analytical solutions are scalable, well‑governed, and aligned with broader data architecture standards.
  • Ensure data governance policies are followed. Train and coach business users on BI tools and best practices.
  • Promote data literacy and a self‑serve analytics culture across the enterprise.
  • Analyze business intelligence data to inform business and product decisions.
  • Blend historical data from available industry reports, public information, field reports, or purchased sources as input to analyses.
  • Identify and analyze industry and geographic trends, competitor market strategies, and current or potential customer trends.
  • Serve as an informal leader within the analytics team, guiding other analysts on best practices, analytical rigor, and a strategic mindset.
Who You Are:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a technical or analytical field or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years of related Business Intelligence and/or analytical experience
  • Experience defining and implementing new products, processes, standards, or operational plans that impact functional results
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to influence and consult with partners at all levels, including data engineering and product management
  • Experience using dedicated business intelligence applications and/or cloud services (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, SAS Visual Analytics, Domo, Looker, Qlik, SAS VA), as well as reporting capabilities within ERP, CRM, or database platforms (e.g., Oracle BI, Salesforce, SAP Business Objects, Pentaho, SSRS)

Skills That Will Help You Stand Out:
