Job Description

Summary:

Messerli Kramer is a leading law firm in the twin cities founded in 1965 with locations in Minneapolis, St. Paul and Plymouth, Minnesota. We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to support our Plymouth Division. This Division provides consumer collections services to financial institutions. The Accounting Manager oversees the accounting team of 10+ staff and manages the accounting and collections processes to ensure accuracy and timeliness. This role also maintains 40+ trust accounts and a $2M+ accounts receivable portfolio.


Essential Functions and Duties:

Supervise team of Accounting Representatives

o Duties include scheduling, training, timekeeping, disciplinary actions, performance reviews, and interviewing/hiring of new staff

Oversee the completion of daily tasks

o Posting and reconciliation of accounts receivable

o Posting and balancing of all incoming funds, posting mixed trust payments, posting all forwarded attorney remits, posting of all returned checks, posting/printing process for post-dated checks, posting of all direct pays from clients

o On line image deposit process

o Payment of all court costs, sheriff fees, all forwarded attorney costs and fees, out of town attorney fees

o Incoming/outgoing ACHs wires

o Processing and sending of remits, debtor overpayment refunds, preference claims/refunds, court cost refunds to clients

o POE/Bank levy returns

o Processing voids

o Running all court cost invoices/accounts receivable

o Reconciling client A/R EFTs, EDI client reconciliations, Midland and NAN financial exceptions and manual files

o Balancing adjustments on debtor claims, Judgment entry and balancing

o Researching payments for internal clients

o Daily client communication regarding monies remitted. Communications thru various reporting methods

o Work closely with Accounting Supervisor, providing direction, development and support

o Project management of ongoing and new projects in the Accounting Department as assigned

o Assist with the Unclaimed Property yearly project

Job Requirements


Required Education & Experience:

  • Experience with accounting software (Microsoft 365 Dynamics/QuickBooks preferred)
  • 4+ previous years experience in accounting, finance or related field
  • 4-year degree (required)

This role operates in a professional office setting, routinely working with standard office equipment. Generally, due to the nature of this office position, the person in this role would be required to talk and hear, sit or stand for long period of time, and use their hands and fingers, to handle and feel. Occasionally required to walk, reach with arms and hand, climb or balance, and to stoop, kneel, or crouch.
