*Overview*
The Oncology Data Specialist plays a crucial role in the management and analysis of oncology-related data within a healthcare setting. This position requires a detail-oriented individual with a strong background in health information management, data management, and medical coding. The Oncology Data Specialist will work closely with clinical teams to ensure accurate data collection, entry, and reporting, contributing to improved patient outcomes and research initiatives.
*Responsibilities*
* Collect, manage, and analyze oncology data from various sources to support clinical decision-making and research efforts.
* Ensure the accuracy and completeness of data entered into databases, adhering to established protocols and standards.
* Utilize knowledge of ICD-9 coding and medical terminology to accurately classify and code patient diagnoses and treatment information.
* Collaborate with medical office staff to gather relevant patient information and facilitate effective communication regarding data needs.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of health information management systems and best practices in data collection methodologies.
* Assist in the development of reports and presentations that summarize findings for clinical teams and stakeholders.
* Support quality assurance initiatives by conducting regular audits of data entries to identify discrepancies or areas for improvement.
*Requirements*
Current and valid Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) certification
Associate degree in Healthcare or Health Information Management with 1 year of cancer registry abstraction experience or
2 years cancer registry abstraction experience
