The School of Social Sciences is one of the largest academic units at UCI, with over 175 faculty, 70 career staff members, 400 graduate students and 5500 undergraduate students. Social Sciences is home to 9 academic departments and our students comprise 20 percent of the entire UCI student body. The School of Social Sciences' Contracts and Grants Unit provides quality service to faculty, researchers, and other academic personnel affiliated with the school to obtain (pre-award) and manage (post-award) sponsored awards that support research, training, and other scholarly activities. The Contracts and Grants Unit staff ensures timely, accurate, and responsible stewardship of funds by carrying out these administrative activities within UC, UCI, Federal, State, and agency policies, procedures, and regulations.
The staff prepares and reviews contract and grant proposal submissions to all prospective sponsors including but not limited to the Federal Government, Private Foundations, and For-Profit Entities. The staff also monitors and reports on funds received from outside sponsors and internal UCI sources and provides general guidance on the proper stewardship of those funds.
Supervises support staff working on grants or contracts according to established policies, practices and defined internal controls. Receives pre-determined work that are subject to a moderate level of control and review. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and policies to determine appropriate action. Identifies risks and responds accordingly. Provides priority setting and work flow analysis. Uses advanced contracts and grants concepts to manage high volume and high complexity transactions. Provides guidance and oversight for pre and post award administration for the school.
