The primary purpose of the Assistant Manager Financial Counseling position is to assist the Manager with providing leadership to the Financial Counseling Unit staff, County Outstation Worker and on-site Vendors. The Assistant Manager Financial Counseling also supports the Revenue Cycle managers in the effective access and use of University Hospital’s information systems and in compliance with operating standards. Coordinates with, and assists the Manager Financial Counseling and the Director Patient Registration and Financial Counseling to ensure efficient operations and achievement of objectives among the various functions are met daily.
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Hospital Administration or related field. A minimum of three (3) years’ experience in Admitting, Financial Counseling, Hospital Billing or Patient Financial/Business Services required. Prior supervisory or management experience minimum one (1) year preferred in a hospital setting. Must be knowledgeable of eligibility criteria for public assistance agencies. Must have previous hospital business office experience, with knowledge of the Health-Quest computer system preferred and proficiency with MS Office Solutions products. Experience with hospital insurance, knowledge of medical terminology and understanding of managed care a must. Knowledge of Medicaid and Charity Care guidelines. Must be detail oriented, possess excellent customer service skills, have the ability to prioritize and to function in a team environment. The individual must be able to problem solve, interact with external and internal departments, as well as train and supervise staff. Strong oral and written communication skills. Proficiency in the use of computer software utilized by the department preferred. Additional related professional experience may be substituted for the degree on a year-for-year basis.
