Job Description

A reputable construction project management and cost consulting firm in Westport, CT is seeking a skilled Payroll Accountant to join their tight knit Payroll team. The ideal candidate will have 3-5 years of experience in hands on payroll processing and account reconciliations. What you’ll do:

  1. Assist with the monthly financial close by preparing account reconciliations, submitting journal entries, and working cross functionally with other internal stakeholders to obtain relevant information.
  2. Advanced understanding of accounting principles, ability to understand impact of payroll activity on financial statements and ability to analyze, explain P&L and Balance Sheet variances.
  3. Prepare balance sheet account reconciliations ensuring the completeness and accuracy of applicable ledger accounts.
  4. Answer accounting and financial inquiries by researching and interpreting data.
  5. Assist in year-end audits and manage ad-hoc inquiries from external auditors.
  6. Manage the posting of the bi-weekly payroll journals.
  7. Reconciliation of the Salary data to the GL.
  8. Explanation of Salary and Benefit related month over month variances.
  9. Accounting for and reconciliation of the various benefit plans:
    1. Life Insurance
    2. Medical
    3. Dental
    4. Vision
    5. HSA
    6. FSA
    7. Transit
  10. Become a back up to Payroll Manger and assist in payroll processing.
  11. Demonstrate advanced expertise in Excel utilizing Pivot, VLOOKUPs and Functions for comprehensive reporting.
  12. Provide support during payroll audits.
  13. Collaborate cross-functionally with HR and Finance to implement new processes and improve on existing processes.
  14. Other duties as assigned.


What we are looking for:
Must have:-

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • Minimum 3 -5 years’ experience in accounting, GL accounting software.
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience with payroll systems (e.x. Workday, ADP)
  • Extensive knowledge of payroll functions including preparation, balancing, internal control and payroll taxes.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
  • Proficiency using Excel

Preferred:-

  • Knowledge in Workday Payroll system
  • Knowledge in Deltek VantagePoint
