The Office of Information Technology (OIT) is a campus-wide service organization dedicated to the strategic planning, implementation, and support of technology products and services that anticipate and meet the academic, research, and administrative needs of the UCI community. The Data & Information Management (D&IM) division provides common and shared data and analytics services that are utilized campus wide, including: database administration, data platform management, data integration, data quality management, business intelligence and analytics applications.

 

Under the direction of the Data Warehouse ETL Manager, the Cloud Data Platform Architect applies advanced IT architecture concepts and campus / medical center / OP or community-specific objectives to resolve highly complex issues with significant impact on the organization. Regularly works on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Effectively selects criteria for evaluating results.

As a key member of the Data & Information Management division in OIT, the incumbent is responsible for the implementation and administration of scalable, cloud-based data and analytics platforms across the UCI data ecosystem, leveraging a variety of DataOps, data warehousing and system administration methodologies and disciplines.

Responsible for the evaluation, recommendation and implementation of data infrastructure automation, data ops tools and other related data infrastructure management solutions.

Responsibilities:
  • Knowledge of data warehousing principles, including data quality, enrichment, standardization, and modeling. Knowledge of best practices for database optimization, data governance, security, resilience, and operational monitoring. Demonstrated ability to design and build cloud data infrastructures in support of data analytics, data science, AI, Machine Learning, and other data initiatives for a large organization. Required
  • Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization. Required
  • Ability to understand business needs and how data systems can support those needs. Required
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds. Required
  • Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Demonstrates problem solving skills. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines. Required
  • Proficiency in programming/scripting languages such as, Python, Java, etc. Demonstrated knowledge of agile software development lifecycle and/or dataops methodologies. Proficiency in change management software such as GitHub, etc. Advanced expertise in SQL development. Required
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business needs into long-term data architecture solutions. Expertise relating to the design and development of data systems across the organization. Required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cloud data storage solutions, such as blob storage, data lakes, data lake houses, and data warehouses. Demonstrated ability implementing and automating data infrastructures in support of a data ops and/or a continuous integration and delivery/deployment (CI/CD) development framework. Required
  • Understanding of and experience with key modeling and description languages used to map complex business and data analytics processes to architectural components, develop common data resource architectures, and create reference frameworks. Preferred
  • Experience with the integration of complex, diverse, internally, and externally developed implementations of business functions to build scalable systems. Preferred
  • Ability to implement and support cloud data lake services using AWS solutions such as S3, CloudFormation, Redshift, Glue, Lambda, SageMaker, and Athena. Required
  • Knowledge of cloud data engineering, data quality automation, data observability and/or dataops tools such as Informatica IDMC, Glue, dbt, Alation, DataKitchen, etc. Proficiency with cloud-based infrastructure as code solutions, such as Terraform, CloudFormation, etc. Knowledge of configuration management tools such as Ansible or Chef. Preferred
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant rules, regulations, and procedures to secure sensitive and confidential data (FERPA, etc.). Knowledge of data quality and governance requirements. Preferred
  • Demonstrated service portfolio, incident management, and project management expertise using JIRA, ServiceNow, etc. Preferred

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $111,200- $215,000 (Annual).


Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience IT experience demonstrating a progression of increasing responsibility.
  • Two (2) plus years implementing cloud-based data infrastructures in support of data analytics services.


Special Conditions:

  • Must be able to work outside of normal business hours and occasionally on weekends.
