The UCI School of Medicine shines on the world stage as an enterprising champion of innovation and discovery. The school has 24 departments, ranging from basic science, clinical and translational research, to medical and surgical specialties.



Responsibilities:

Under the general direction of the School of Medicine Controller and the Director of Finance, the Finance Operations Manager has a broad range of financial and administrative responsibilities for the School of Medicine. The incumbent has responsibility for oversight of the financial management for accounts and business transactions in the School of Medicine Dean’s Office Units and the Health Affairs Vice Chancellor’s Office Units. The incumbent understands and applies generally accepted accounting principles, cost accounting standards, and University policies and procedures. The incumbent provides direction for and supervision of the School of Medicine Finance Operations Unit. The incumbent is responsible for a wide variety of budget, financial, and operational analyses for existing School programs. The incumbent is responsible for developing and implementing systems to insure efficient operation of all business functions while remaining in compliance with University policies and procedures. The incumbent performs policy and procedure review for School-wide business transactions requiring Dean’s level approval. The incumbent must be able to adapt to a continually evolving, fast-paced environment, demonstrating both the autonomy and collaboration skills needed to advance the unit’s purpose and to inspire confidence by internal and external stakeholders.

Required:

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate, follow through, and be accountable for outcomes.
  • Proven ability to independently complete complex financial analyses.
  • Proven ability to research and prepare management level documents, reports, and summaries
  • Demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to read and write in the English language.
  • Demonstrated skill to work independently to analyze situations, interpret data, define problems and/or objectives, identify relevant factors, and formulate logical conclusions.
  • Extensive financial and budget management experience in a complex fund accounting environment.
  • Demonstrated skill using business software programs, including Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Proven ability to work and communicate effectively with a variety of constituencies including faculty, executive leaders, administrators, staff, students, and vendors.
  • Demonstrated skill to organize tasks, prioritize, and complete assignments when faced with heavy and diversified workload, deadlines, and demanding requests for service in an environment of frequent interruptions and/or distractions.
  • Ability to handle highly sensitive and confidential issues that require independent judgment and strict discretion, and maintain strict confidentiality of privileged information.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude and contribute both as an individual and a team member to achieve the goals of the School.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to establish and maintain professional working relationships.
  • Knowledge of accounting theory and university fund accounting.
  • 8-10 years of experience with BA/BS, or 3-5 years of experience with MA/MS, or equivalent experience.


Preferred:

  • Experience with UC or UC Irvine enterprise systems, including but not limited to Kuali Financial System, Cognos Decision Support, and School of Medicine Decision Support Services.
  • Experience with University of California or University of California, Irvine administrative policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of federal regulations governing research activity, including Uniform Guidance.
  • Experience in an academic healthcare environment
